None of our brothers and sisters should be sent to war or put in harm's way, for any reason, that isn't true. We as a country failed to protect our honor, democracy, and legacy.

In addition to our citizens we have no right to harm others when harm has been commited against us. 2 million, that's right 2 million Vietnamese died for a war that was illegal, immoral, and a fraud.

Hokum's Razor

Hokum’s Razor

It is as fine as frog’s hair the difference between an educated citizenry and the ability of those in power to control those that are educated. The tipping point between complacency and moral outrage is a very fine line indeed. I’ve lived through the last 50 years as a distracted yet interested observer. Education is, after all, a life long endeavor and the greatest equalizer. The trick is to know what to observe, study, and learn opposed to what you are being fed, manipulated by, and placated by as you go through your life minding your own business.
The propaganda is subtle but the corruption is complete. Morals and values are replaced with painted on patriotism and misplaced loyalty. Yet these are how Americans want to follow their leaders. Things that may once have been a part of our republic and its values are misplaced when we expect them from the extreme end of capitalism and the manipulation of religion. We have a country of fundamentalist fanatical consumers.
I don’t remember when the turning point was for me, around my mid-thirties perhaps, when I realized that there was a drastic diminishing return with regards to my happiness and my debt load. I had been caught up in the marketing and advertising to the point where the seasons of my life were defined by the things I owned. A snowmobile, ski trips, and ice fishing for winter. Fishing gear, a canoe, and travel in spring. A boat, a motorcycle, a sports car, and so many other things for summer, and all of the above in the fall, but the service I had to put into supporting all those things diminished rather than enhanced my life.
I turned away from the pursuit of material goods as a way of defining who I was. To my credit card companies I’m a free loader, only using my cards to make purchases and then paying off the total amount. To others I may appear as being cheap or frugal owning electronics and vehicles until they stop working and can’t be repaired. And to listen to our Presidents Bush, and I’m sad to say, Obama I’m not much of a patriot because my first impulse is not to go out and make purchases to give the economy a boost. Though I have made purchases as my needs demanded for durable goods.
The primary factor in any equation for capitalism is growth. Listen to any economist and growth is the key healthy indicator for any sector. And this single factor is behind every negative aspect in our society and the planet.
When traffic patterns, vehicle fuel consumption, the destruction of public transportation, and speed limits are considered, all of them contribute to the need for more fuel, more oil, more gas stations, more tires, and more repairs.
When scientists develop food sources through gene manipulation and other methods to increase yields, the cost goes down visibly, but the cost on the planet in the use of fertilizer, land, and water is unseen and not taught to the public. Another aspect of this, not immediately visible is the growth in the global population. Where, in the past, population was a factor of naturally available food sources and organically grown crops, population is now out of balance with the natural ability of the planet to support it. The dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico is a result of contaminants and run off from upriver. Another contributing factor has been the levee system that prevents silt, a natural by product of flooding, from nurturing the delta groves.
Electrical generation has been a factor of demand also. Larger homes need more lighting, cooling, and heating. Larger homes need more construction material, more furniture, and more maintenance. Everything is designed to encourage consumerism, capitalism’s extreme. But it does promote growth.
With larger homes, cars, boats, and toys more insurance is needed, more protection, and more attention. The loans necessary to buy them also cost more money. A home purchase for 150K can wind up costing twice that with interest over thirty years.
Larger people also need more care and maintenance, especially if they’ve been fed the processed foods we eat and use tobacco products, all approved and sanctioned by our leaders.
The citizens in this country are nothing more than the support system for corporate greed. Regardless of the patriotic rhetoric, religious overtures, and outright manipulation all of who we are and what we do is a designed to enrich a very small percentage of people. The deck is stacked against morality, simplicity, and common sense.

Yes, disillusioned...

Yes I’m disillusioned. It isn’t about where to live or what country is better than America. That tactic is the type used to distract people from the facts of what has happened here in the USA. We were a republic founded on basic human tenets that have been evolving in western society for thousands of years. Our democracy was a culmination of human clarity with regards to human dignity.
It has become a polarized country where the extremes of the political spectrum dictate the course of our future. Both sides claim to be sanctioned by god and trust that they have the right to impose their beliefs on others. The truth, the way forward, is as it has always been a moderate, middle of the road compromise that takes the best of both sides of the discussion to maintain our core freedoms and beliefs.
It is amazing to me that the argument becomes, “where else would you live”, or “America is the greatest country in the world”, which is just hyperbole designed to galvanize weak minded, ignorant people, that have no understanding of history or are incapable of thinking for themselves. During their education the importance of history is never explained to students and how it gives context to our place in time. The USA is just the latest of places of which people felt the need to migrate to. It used to be where hunting grounds were teeming with animals, or where learned men gathered to listen to each other’s ideas, or where people could just live without the threat of others invading them.
In our short history of just over 200 years, we wiped out entire native civilizations, fought a war over state’s rights (their right to enslave people), despoiled our own air, water, and land, waged wars based on lies, convinced everyone that owning things is more important than being sensible and honorable, and corrupted the very values and freedoms this country was founded on to nurture.
In every discussion about our economy the word “growth” is the core factor for the good health in this regard. It is repeated until any that listen to it become inculcated with the message. It is a form of brainwashing, used to great effect by Rovian neo-conservatives, to justify its ulterior motives, which is to subdue, control, and manipulate the citizens of this country into subservience. Unchecked growth in nature most times results in nature pushing back in ways that the growth does not anticipate. In humans it is cancer, in economies it is recessions and depressions, in nature it results in the massive die off of the offending entity after it has depleted the host environment.
What I am most offended about is the drumbeat of capitalism, entrepreneurship, and consumerism. That these activities are the epitome of human evolution and their ends justify all means. This attitude is the driving force behind the destruction of public transportation, the super sizing of homes, and the Hummer, which in turn has culminated in our dangerous dependence on foreign energy sources. This dependence then justifies the military industrial conglomerate that is tasked with maintaining, protecting, and usurping those supplies. In turn the consumerism that promotes growth (cancer) is allowed to flourish. The problem is for most American citizens, that we are saturated with material goods, as far as it pertains to consumer markets. The result of this is our manufacturing and electronic based services are exported and outsourced, which are euphemisms for given to other countries. This is done to create new middle classes that are not saturated with material goods and they become the new viral consumers. It is also the reason why illegal immigrants are tolerated and allowed to continue. It is also the reason why all the regulations earned by our American labor are not enforced overseas, along with the lack of controls in the manufacturing process, and the destruction of the labor movement in this country. Thus growth for corporations in every sector is maintained while the standard of living diminishes for a majority of American citizens, and supposedly the standard of living in other countries is improved. If we were to try to lift the rest of the world to the apex of our standard of living, well it just isn’t possible, nor in retrospect should it be an aspiration.
Yes I’m disillusioned.

What would Jesus Charge, Socialized medicine advocate, or Hippocratic Heretic

For all the arguments against President Obama's health care reform it caused me to consider the many aspects of Jesus's teachings and professions.
What would Jesus charge to heal the sick, as he did, and what would the patient's co-pay be? What the heck would the code be for Lazarus? Would Lazarus have to pay for the rest of his life?

Would lepers be charged more because they were lepers? Did Jesus refuse to heal those that could not pay? Did the purported prostitute Mary Magdalene have employer provided health care? How much of Judas' 50 pieces of silver go to health care?

Did Romans, because they were roaming, have to pay more because they were out of network? And are they the ones responsible for the roamin' charges on cell phones? And did Jesus refuse outright to treat Romans because they crossed over the border illegally?

What would Jesus think, as a carpenter, of splinter groups of Christianity? And since he made crosses, was this technically a pre-existing condition for him?

As a Fisher O'men, (amen), did he qualify anyone as a dangerous catch? Would he have thrown anyone back? And do you think he would eat seafood from the Gulf of Mexico after the spill and release of oil?

As a Bouncer (money changers), could he have healed himself if he had thrown his back out, and if not, who the heck would he go to see, not a Pharisee I'm sure, to get healed?

As a Speaker, Preacher, Storyteller, why didn't he ever have a Crystal Cathedral, podium, or arena? Most of his sermons seemed to have been standing room only. Would God have been his TicketMaster also?

How much of a Military did Jesus recommend when turning the other cheek?

Another Matyr to Sanity

To Tyler Clementi and his family bless you all in this time of hurt and pain. There are and there never will be anything that can heal this.

To those that preach, criticize, and condemn him for his nature, your time will come when you will have to answer for it. That which cannot be defined or described, god, will apply his levy.

To all of those that profess their beliefs through their religions be it Christian, Muslim, Judaism, Hindu or what have you, and harbor hate in their hearts for any of god's children, or foster through their support wars, your hypocrisy will stand out most of all, it is evil from the very source of all evil...and you all are more on the side of evil than that of good...

Sir Thomas More's Quote, Philosopher, Statesman, Author...Saint

"When statesmen forsake their own private conscience
for the sake of their public duties
they lead their country, by a short route,
to chaos"

Me lie, you lie, we all lie, and people die...

Since the justification for going into Iraq, WMDs, the Iraq-Al Qaeda link, and the imminent threat caused by the Saddam Hussein regime was non-existent, how do we resolve and absolve the crimes committed by our country against humanity?

If we as a people, citizens of the United States, allow murder in the name of our defense then we are not worthy of our heritage, legacy, or presumed sense of superiority.

It is not by chance that action, sanctioned by our belief in god and our self-proclaimed belief of god's belief in us, has resulted in a diminished world, diminished freedoms, and squandered opportunities to lead. When led by fearful emotions, inculcated by the steady drumbeat of leaders with ulterior motives, the result is a population of cowards who deserve not, that which was won by honorable actions, the American Legacy.

The so called political leaders, Bush, Cheney, Rice, and Rumsfeld with the hands of the military corporations controlling their words and actions brought us back in time 50 years, when lies brought us to Vietnam. Where is the hue and cry now, where are the brave and fearless, they linger and wallow in the mess of their possessions and the satiety of their excesses.

At what point do people become sell outs? How and when do the rationalizations overwhelm the underlying good nature of people where they can then justify the corruption they enable?

At some point the noble ideas of creating a world that benefits the most people while destroying the least amount of the world has been left far behind in our rear view mirrors in the name of capitalism. Our economic model is based on rampant unchecked consumerism in the name of promoting capitalism. And this is not to say that the best aspects of capitalism cannot be appreciated though they cannot be if they inhabit only the far end of the spectrum.

Consumerism, entrepreneurship, businesses, and corporations are representative of capitalism’s success but these exist because our system allows them, they exist because citizens have allowed them in their present form. They are not possible without the support and collusion of citizens that provide the engines that make them possible they are marketed to us, propagandized, and their value to our lives an inculcated mantra of things we can’t live without to the exclusion of everything else. It is a symbiotic relationship and ignoring this fact, taking the capitalist constituency for granted, is what brings us to the brink of anarchy.

The hubris, I need to create a word that defines prideful hubris, that the champions of capitalism possess totally ignores the contribution, resilience, and faith of the people which endure despite their exploitation. To listen to those on the far right talk all that is good in our nation resides solely in realm of capitalism.

The greatest accomplishment of this uber-capitalism is the elimination of accountability. By leaving tort reform unresolved, occasionally paying it lip service, along with escalating the costs of, and ubiquitous applicability of, insurance, the once sanitizing act of responsibility is taken out of our society as a way of identifying and eliminating corruption. The evil aspects of human nature, the worst of which are the exploitation of our fellow global citizens and earth’s resources, are now sanctioned and accommodated through the equation of costs divided by benefits. There no longer is any value to holding anyone accountable for anything. The payoff happens the parties involved are placated with monetary awards and the cost of all of it is dissolved into the vast wealth of our consuming passion labeled capitalism.

Home of the free, Really?

Home of the free, really?

We are not free from fear it is fed to us by our leaders on a daily basis. It is the reason we illegally overthrow governments under the guise of protecting our country from small groups of fundamentalist religious fanatics. The fear mongering has depleted our national defense capabilities, eroded the very freedoms we proclaim as our reason for the illegal wars, and has compromised our economy through borrowing and increased deficits.

We are not free to speak our minds or debate because our views will be used against us to limit our opportunities. You and I are not free to have opinions lest we will be ostracized. We are not free to worship unless it is the Christian religion that has become the de facto religion of this country.

We are not free to live in our homes without an annual tax lien imposed by our government to “support” social services. And if anyone has seen our school systems you can see how well that has worked for us.

We are not free from the corruption in nearly every sector of our society crimes are committed by corporate officers.

Food producers do not maintain adequate control of their processes as evidenced by salmonella, e coli, and the colossal mistake of industrialized farming causing us to rely on the high cost of transportation and single providers.

Banking and financial companies are constantly guilty of fraud and abuse, creating financial trading vehicles that are impossible to understand and manage.

Corporations receive federal subsidies in way of contracts that are not negotiated, not regulated, not verified, and with no accountability for failure to deliver. Especially sacrosanct defense (offense) industries, when profits lag, start a war.

Mine safety, oil rigs, ships and vessels, pipelines, transmission grids, drug companies, schools, food processing etc. all sectors are unregulated, not scrutinized, and cheat on their process controls.

Insurance companies can change their policies indiscriminately. On the Gulf Coast, insurance companies cancelled wind policies for homes below I 10 immediately following the hurricane seasons of 04-05. Then there were few storms for the next 4-5 years. They request a rate increase to make up for the money they would have received in wind coverage which would have been all pocket money because of the low hurricane incidents.

Insurance companies lobby for seat belt laws, the resultant windfall, fewer damages paid for injuries is not refunded to policy holders or realized as reduced cost in policy charges.

There has been no tort reform or caps on insurance awards, why, because the capitalist pyramid scam only works when the cost of insurance overwhelms the money paid out in awards. We all lose, insurance have a license to print money.

We still wage a war on drugs, when, to hold a decent job you need to take a drug test. Another “war” to maintain and subsidize the defense industry sector, or corporate welfare.

How absurd is it that employees have to sign vows to behave ethically, when we are surrounded by corruption at every level of leadership?

Health Care Solution

Everybody, all of you, each and everyone...

STOP PAYING FOR HEALTH INSURANCE TODAY!

This isn't a conspiracy rant but a factual rendition of the problem. What started out as a noble endeavour, to provide care for all by spreading the cost over a large population, has turned into an evil pyramid scheme to enrich a very small group.

Tenet number one, First Do No Harm...

Health care is not a privilege.

The health care axis of evil is;
The FDA, HMOs, Health Insurance industry, and Lawyers...

Corporate Motivation

Whenever a corporation was interested in increasing its profits and improving its bottom line there would be an annoucement declaring a reduction in its workforce.
Operating lean reduces overhead through payroll reduction, benefits reduction, and supposedly improved efficiency.
So in this economy what motivation does any business have to hire more employees? This entire economic downturn is a contrived disaster. As citizens of the US we are held hostage by corporations. They have no interest whatsoever in our welfare.
As was the case after 9/11 and it was also the case after the debacle of this depression, our leaders tell us to buy, buy, buy... What little most of us have is to be spent so that corporations can profit.
Here in Alabama, the Governor, sells out his citizens to lure corporations to this state. Speculating that the corporate investment within the state will result in higher employment, greater tax revenue, and an improved situation for everyone. How has that worked out so far Bob? What you aren't told is that most companies don't hire as many employees as negotiated when they get their lucrative tax breaks but this is so far of most of the populations radar that it is invisible and not reported.
And with the collusion of the media in perpertrating this fraud it is never revealed in any news story.
But this story goes even farther. The most affected demographic of this economic downturn is middle aged people. Those older than 50 years old. This group will not be hired because their experience though vital and valuable is not an asset sought by corporations. This "lost" age group will see a reduction in their social security benefits as a result of this strategy, an issue that has yet to be reported.

When you rule by fear, Expect cowards to reign...

America, Home of the Naïve, land of the Corporation…

This once mighty nation of patriots, craftsmen, and leaders has become the crucible of mediocrity, the foundry of fraud, and the abattoir of accountability.

Through the most recent past generations the bedrock of what our democratic republic stood upon has been eroded by greed. What it represents now is a cash machine for the entitled few, not the huddled masses, nor the citizens that have made all of it possible.

It is a pyramid scheme, all of it, designed to control the most wealth by the fewest people. It is the Prescott-Walker Prospect. And it has been done by manipulating its people as most cons are.

One, enslave the masses to consumerism. Create an economy that not only needs, but demands, consumption. True worth of all things is diminished so that more is needed, more is wasted, and fewer are secure and financially solvent. How else could SUVs come to be? All traffic patterns were and are designed to consume the most fuel. All you can eat buffets where gluttony is sanctioned. Bigger houses, bigger boats, bigger salaries, bigger TVs, bigger motorcycles, bigger pets, bigger, bigger, bigger. The ugly “B” word.

Two, change the dynamics of food production and population. Under the guise of providing more food to the starving masses, we create more starving masses, but also more consumers. Then we convince the new second and third world consumers that the American lifestyle model is the one they should emulate. The corporations get new consumers and markets, ones that aren’t as saturated with things as the American people are and then the American people are abandoned. Jobs are shipped overseas so that new consumer societies, aka the middle class with expendable income, are created and the standard of living for Americans diminishes. This in the eyes of the world is our comeuppance, hurried along by the greed of corporations.

Three, eliminate accountability, integrity, and character. Redefine leadership to mean that the new leaders become the minions of capitalism and those that do not go along, and reflect the most light of those that lead them, do not belong to the new “republic”. The counter-culture members become marginalized. Do you think it is just coincidence that the onset of the 21st century depression affects the middle of the baby boom generation? The group that was responsible for the culture wars of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Payback is a bitch.

Four, create sector pyramids, divide and conquer through fear and destruction. For example the health care industry. You create a federal agency, which approves and regulates food and drugs; let us call it the FDA. They in turn support additives in food chain without understanding the effects on the population; e.g. corn syrup. They also approve drugs that, in another framework would constitute poison e.g. Avandia, Vioxx, and Celebrex. Then limit the options/actions that the citizen consumers may avail themselves of to resolve the problems resulting from their consumption of these products. To further the profits of this sector of the economy, we will have an insurance racket its sole purpose is to take more money from the citizens. It will then divide services, services which were once covered under the original health insurance plans, are sliced off and create new services which require, get this its brilliant, more insurance to be covered adequately for the services which were once covered. Now people that suffer the deleterious effects from the food additives that are poison and drugs that are poison have to pay more of their monetary solvency to live. Then through marketing and propaganda you can tell them all how you’ve extended the average lifespan but leave out the part where you steal more of their money. The other sectors include the banking industry, investment firms, aerospace, chemicals, etc. Why else would the regulatory agencies designed to check the inherent greed of all the sectors be neutered?

Five, divide the population through rhetoric, religion, education, class, and regions. Play up the fear, play up the fear, and play up the fear. So that now the once brave people, now citizen consumers, come to value things more than freedom. Appearance, illusions, and diversions triumph over substance, truth, and the things in life that really matter.

Six, bring back the politics of dirty tricks and lies to the democratic process. How else could people like John Kerry, John McCain, and Max Cleland be assaulted and compromised while campaigning. How else could an idiot and coward, relatively speaking, like George W. Bush be elected dog catcher, let alone Governor of Texas and President of the United States. Change the laws that limit control of media outlets so that the propaganda supporting this, New American Agenda, is more efficiently spewed and consumed. And thus dividing the consumer citizens even further from one another.

Seven, create a new entitled class to take the place of the “Greatest Generation”. Create a fairy tale of how the “military”, Reagan, and capitalism defeated the Nazis, fascism, and communism and in turn made the world safe for democracy and freedom. Leave out the facts of how until Pearl Harbor most of America was unwilling to go to war in Europe. Leave out the fact that after Pearl Harbor it was American citizens that volunteered or were drafted to fight the war and that it was just a very few of these citizens that fought the war comparatively speaking. But all that participated in the armed services have benefitted from the few. Never has a generation benefitted so much by the sacrifice of so few. And those few succeeded in spite of their military leaders. Leave out the facts that communism was defeated by the GNP of the US and the productivity of all of its citizens. Leave out the facts that the corruptive extremes of an ideology like communism had as much to do with its destruction as we did. Leave out the fact that our own destruction is certain because of the corruption of our extreme, i.e. consumerism. The new “entitled class” are the military. The facts, although relevant, will have no bearing on what we are made to believe. It is only the military that die for freedom, though 4000 Americans die on the job each year thousands more are injured. And the “Military Establishment” all of it, thrives, suckles, and flourishes on the deaths, injuries, and honor of those that die in our ongoing, and fraudulent, military actions. The Military Conglomerate’s foundation is built on the graves of soldiers, citizens, and truth. It is the only way they can thrive, the only way. This is the same sector that benefitted with the compromise of the Gays in the Military. The other side of the compromise, what nobody asked and what nobody was told, was how there was no longer a waiting period between separation from the military and entry into the private sector that served the military. Thus was established the continuity of corruption. For now the industrial sectors that support the military had their “sanctioned and certified” employees. Once learning in the military how to reflect the most light of those that promote you would you be able to transition into the private sector to a job where they become complicit in the “Theft of Honor” and destruction of American democracy. They get their pensions which aren’t earned on top of the money they get paid for jobs they aren’t qualified for.

A fair solution for unreasonable people...

Utilizing a technology bars have used for decades we should have a code reader on gasoline fill nozzles that read the type of vehicle they are filling.
If people want to drive gas guzzlers they should have to pay more for the gas they are purchasing. If people want to go to the tanning salon in a SUV, or drive 70+ miles an hour in a huge pick up truck than they should have to pay a higher amount for the gas they use.
It can be a graduated cost, vehicles getting below 15 mpg will pay twice the baseline price of gasoline, 16-24 mpg the price will be 1.5 times the cost, 24-35 mpg the cost will be baseline cost, and anything above 35 mpg they will start getting a discount.
Rather than giving subsidies for vehicles that increase our dependence on oil and petroleum, as we did for SUVs, we should have these gas guzzlers susidize our country.

Amazing

There is a problem with gays in the military!?

They have liars, idiots, ass kissers, phonies, gold brickers like it is
a brick factory, cowards who can't come out against a phony war until they retire and start collecting..,but they have a problem with the attraction two of the same sex have for each other...

the world is insane and it is the most insane leading the way...

Military Industrial Corruption

The militarization of America
The worst compromise ever for the United States was the one in which gays in the military were allowed to serve in brave silence. The other side of this compromise was the ability of retired government service, military, and other officials to go into civilian industrial corporate America immediately upon severance of service.
What this has done is provide for a strengthening of the military industrial complex whereby it has dominant control of our government and the civilian population. The social manipulation that has occurred in the last 4 decades, when the counter-culture movement imposed its will on how the Nixon administration prosecuted the Vietnam War and the subsequent withdrawal without victory, should be subject to investigation. Forty years ago we were on the verge of attempting to address all the social failures we are facing, again or still, now. The movement wanted to reduce pollution, reduce military intervention and the hegemony associated with that intervention, improve education, conserve resources, and limit the unfair influence of big business in the affairs of the populace.
The ever so grave danger (there is no other kind) is the type of leadership and management that results from militarism. Military leadership is not leadership by merit; it is leadership by rank authority, two distinct, but very important concepts to embrace. In the natural order of things knowledge, ability, experience, and charisma are what make natural leaders. By virtue of their innate skills and the recognition of ability by those they associate with in their chosen profession, the competent are able to climb the ladder of success and responsibility. What happens in the military is an unnatural selection process. What happens is that those that reflect the most light of those responsible for promoting them become higher ranking officers and enable the continuance of the inbred management culture of the military.
Americans have come to believe that military equals leadership. Patriotism was hijacked just for this purpose after 9/11. Our greatest strength is not the military it is the ideology that all men and women are created equal. Along with the liberties we enjoy as a free people. The republic founded by our forefathers was the culmination of centuries of rights earned by men reasoning with the forces that controlled them. The democracy we enjoy was not given to us by god, but earned by the efforts and labors of men that had tasted the opportunities that industriousness allows.
I observed, when working for the Navy, the culling of individuals that were different from the spectrum needed to feed the military’s future. There is a relatively narrow band width of light that reflects the most of what the military wants and needs. It is not by accident that they look the same, sound the same, and act like one another. The problem we face as a country is the controlling regimentation of our people, our jobs, and what it bodes for our future.
I believe in the military and my brothers and sisters that serve. That is why I spoke out against the invasion of Iraq. It was based on lies, it was not planned very well, and it was executed horribly. But it has succeeded in elevating the military establishment on the backs of the enlisted. There has always been contempt in the ranks for the leadership in the military, Willie and Joe would tell you so, the contempt comes from the knowledge that war and chaos go hand in hand and results cannot be predicted.

Mankind's System Failure

Mankind’s System Failure
The United States Coast Guard, Class Societies, and the maritime industry have a relationship, which is incestuous, criminal, and rife with cronyism. The grand collusion has been deteriorating the regulatory oversight necessary to ensure the viability of this industry, and the safety of its people.
The Coast Guard inspectors tasked with ensuring regulatory compliance within the industry are inexperienced and do not have the requisite knowledge to support inspections. They do not have an understanding of the systems they approve and how everything on board any type of maritime structure is interconnected. A ship, boat, drill rig, ferry, etc. all have specific functions they serve and all have complicated rules for construction. The US Coast Guard is overtaxed in its duties and cannot support the requirements of vessel/structure inspections; there is no debate on this matter. I have lived and worked in this industry my entire life.
Class Societies, American Bureau of Shipping, Lloyd’s Register, Det Norsk Veritas, and other companies do not have qualified people reviewing designs, they do not have qualified people inspecting the construction of the vessels and structures, and they do not have qualified people supporting the life cycle maintenance of vessels and structures.
The same industry and regulatory problems that exist within the banking industry, coal industry, investment industry, or any sector for that matter, exist more so in the maritime industry. When oversight from a person or organization is required, that should bring integrity, character, and honor to a process to ensure standards are maintained and that regulations are obeyed, it does not occur.
There is in our constitution a separation of church and state for a reason. Neither should be perceived as, or allowed to, sanction or endorse the other. This very simple concept should be the new baseline of any regulatory agency. There cannot be cross pollination between regulatory agencies and corporations.
The mission of any government is to mitigate the darker aspects of human nature. We have laws against all manner of evil. That evil grows from hearts of mankind. Societies create religions, support systems, and organized governments because of the recognition, albeit subtly intrinsic, of this evil in us.
And evil is represented now most effectively in board rooms across the world. Credibility, respectability, and integrity are superseded by greed, selfishness, and hubris. These corporate entities believe that they and they alone can do the most good for the world. When the fact is, and the world is retching with proof, they do penultimate harm and irreversible damage to the soul of this world.
We have allowed them to befoul our land, sea, and air with chemicals that poison our world. They will argue that they do it to provide food, work, and material goods. When in fact it is to create untold wealth for a minor percentage of the world’s population and, when the bill comes due, it will not be them that pick up the tab.
As with everything nature teaches us balance is the answer. We’ve been so far out of balance for so long, that we are fast approaching the point of incline where friction will be overcome and we will plummet off the edge, into the abyss of darkness.
We don’t have time for politicians to come to their end of life understanding of their allowing this to happen and wishing they had done it different. You need to fast forward and understand it today.

Divide and Conquer

American, I'm an American. Not a liberal, not a conservative, not a radical, or any other tag. My religion is my business. My politics are my business and you are welcome to my political business as I post it here. My race is the human race, my planet is earth, my desire is that we do the best for the most, as best we all can.
Polarizing rhetoric divides us. It is up to you all to decide why people, corporations, and so called leaders are trying to divide us.

The flaw in the ointment...

The Flaw in the Ointment

Human nature is the flaw in the ointment of deregulation it manifests itself in the guise of efficiency and lower costs but exposes all of us to the dangers of mismanagement.

Throughout the spectrum of industrial sectors the only thing that matters is profit. Less government oversight, less regulation, and less accountability all improve the opportunity for increased profits.

Do not make any mistake about it, the total value of the citizens of this country, is nothing compared to the value businesses put on themselves. If the banking or financial industry fails because of mismanagement they will and have been bailed out. If a commercial airplane crashes because of mismanagement it will be argued that air transportation is the safest it has ever been, though, that will be little relief to those that lose loved ones in crashes. If someone gets sick from tainted food it will be investigated, publicized, and addressed but it will not repair the mismanagement in the industry.

We all have a price on our head it is not what we think it is, it is, what is settled for after a law suit or a company pays for damages.

The USA is a government of the people and for the people remind your representatives of this fact.

Let's hope for change...

Obama is having a bi-partisan meeting at the Blair House to try and secure a new approach to dealing with health care.

Wouldn't it be nice if they acted in our best interest, ie, the American people, rather than in their own and corporations.

And I know how inflammatory this will be, but, death panels were a hot button issue when it came to end of life issues, where are the "life panels" that should be addressing the start of life issues? Neo-natal care costs, for premature births, are enormous. Why is it that, abortion is against god's will, but the intervention during premature births is not?

Truth, and facts, and all the issues we as a society face need to be dealt with as a whole. Or else all we do is for naught.

Presidential Leadership

The various talking heads on different shows want to criticize President Obama's foreign policy leadership.

Given what President Obama inherited, diminished military capabilities, staggering economic challenges, two wars, and a hostile partisan opposition party it would be impossible to "stand tall" on any issue let alone foreign policy.

The ongoing conservative strategy is to, generationally, diminish left wing policies and politicians. I wrote, and advised, on numerous occasions that taking over the bag of crap left by the Bush adminstration was nothing more than another step in their strategic choreography. You all need to wake the f..k up.

Stop Paying for Health Insurance

One sure way of effectively influencing the health care debate is to stop paying for health insurance.

By taking this stand I may pay for it with my life, if I become ill, but so be it. To allow this ponzi scheme to continue in its present form is criminal.

We are a nation of citizens not corporations!
Democracy allows capitalism, not vice versa.

True Axis of Evil

Insurance companies, health care industry, and the FDA.

This coalition of greed is destroying this country. The FDA approves things like the use of corn syrup, food additives, and smoking without the requisite knowledge of how the use of these products in the long run harm us.

The insurance companies, through a decades long ponzi scheme, leverages the baby boom generation against the future downturn in reduced profits from a smaller generation.

And health organizations resist practical solutions to capital costs.

Add to it, factions like lawyers, congress, and lobbyists and it all feeds off itself to take advantage of the American people.

Prophets, Decry Profits and let loose the frauds of War.

Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, frauds all as they used enlisted service people indiscriminately. Deceiving their way into Iraq, with their WMD resolution, these three war criminals squandered thousands of lives to accomplish what?

After billions of dollars, thousands of coalition lives, hundreds of billions of dollars, and nine years, the gang that couldn’t think straight succeeded in absolutely nothing.

Our foes, Al Qaida, Bin Laden, radical Muslims, taking their time, planning their moves carefully, and executing diligently, accomplished more in their attacks on 9/11, in one day, than we have been able to in over 9 years.

Our casualties, our brothers and sisters, have paid the last full measure for what? To sustain a corporate infrastructure that the cowards listed above represent. And while propping up the economy to sustain the reelection of, Georgie the Usurper, they enabled the continued destruction of our republic.

Mc Cain n'Abel ing

Dear Senator McCain

The country is waiting...

God Bless you for your service to our country.

But, putting forth, the empty Palin as your trudging mate, pales in comparison. We didn't torture you the North Vietmese did. Why you visit this plague on your own country is beyond reckoning. If it isn't an incorrigible sin it should be.

...for your apology

Conservative Jester, Courting Treason

The book “Courting Disaster”, by Marc Thiessen, is an attack on the Obama Administration’s failure in its war on terror because, it is reported, the CIA no longer conducts interrogations of terrorists. As per the previous administration this kind of attack on a war president gives aid, succor, and relief, to the terrorists and it harms the USA.

This idiot, upper crust(way overdone), conservative proselytizer is doing more harm than good. It is pandering to the fear mongers, and jeopardizing this country’s future.

What if, this administration had publically stated one thing, that the CIA was no longer doing the interrogations, and top secretly they were still doing what has been claimed to be so successful?

Whatever connections this Mama's boy uses to put forth his views, they need to be severed.

Is it at all possible for our secret agencies to actually conduct their covert acts covertly? Do we have to divulge everything we are doing? Do we have to constantly give the other team our playbook? Grow up, shut up, and quit being a part of the problem.

And by the way there were still numerous security failures by the Bush League of Extraordinarily Ordinary Gentlemen. One, case and point, Rumsfeld’s non-support of the CIA during the initial incursion into Afghanistan and the assault on Tora Bora, and the opportunity to capture Bin Laden. That single failure, because of grandstanding, is in and off itself an act of treason.

Herr Gobbles

Today is enough.

Turn away from the hate filled, distortion, and corruption of the likes of Rush Limbaugh.
The prince of pomposity.
The burgermeister of bombast.
The Herr Gobbles of the conservative movement.

Stop listening to him. His divisiveness and polarizing effects on “ditto heads” is part of the problem not part of the solution.

The militarization of America

The liberty of education

All over the world one of the most treasured dreams of parents for their children is for them to obtain the best education they can get.
For religious fundamentalists their greatest fear is that the people they hold power over will become more educated. When the Taliban in Afghanistan want to send a message to the people in that country one of their targets were schools that teach girls and young women. There is something inherently evil about any culture that is afraid of its women. Just think in our own country women have yet to have voting rights for a century.
Recently during the haggling over the stimulus package funds for education were reduced so the package would cost billions of dollars less than proposed. Other things stayed in the package but money for education came out.
Having taught in public schools, albeit only as a substitute teacher, I have been amazed at how much is taken for granted by our children. And how unaware they are of what education can be for them. It is a ticket to a better, brighter, and more interesting life. Many times while trying to maintain control in the classroom I would urge them to stay focused and that, life does not offer opportunities, to undo the mistakes of the past. One of my own personal regrets is that I did not devote enough time and energy to education.
When National Socialism took hold in Germany of the 1930s the population was desperate for solutions to the global depression, their loss of standing in the world as a result of the Great War, and other perceived threats, manifested themselves as fears, promoted by a propaganda machine that was unrelenting. Many people have drawn parallels to that period of history in Germany and what we have been going through here in the United States. One of the first targets of the Nazis was education. Another technique was to lay claim to patriotism and that it belonged to the established government and them alone. To be a patriot meant you thought the way they did.
I have spoken out for most of the last 8 years against the policies of the previous administration. I did not believe in going to war in Iraq. This has resulted in a military stretched to the breaking point. I also did not believe in the tax refunds, and the indiscriminate and ill conceived spending for homeland security, so much of it was wasted. It is amazing now that our representatives from Alabama can criticize President Obama for what he is attempting, yet they went along with the fearful extortion promoted by the Bush administration. How many billions or trillions of dollars have been spent? And the whole time they would say that we are fighting terrorism yet we can’t prevent another attack in the future. Talk about having it both ways.
You do not fight terrorism with conventional strategy and tactics. You can’t spend indiscriminately and then refund billions of dollars. You can’t claim to be fiscally conservative and then not know where the money you spend is going. And we can not survive as a nation divided against itself.
In this country’s darkest hours the most unifying force has been that of freedom. For all of our disparities we need to find common ground and lay our foundation, yet again, on that ground. Education should always be the aggregate that binds us together.
God Bless the World the USA is part of.

Slaves and prostitutes

What are your solutions to the problems this country faces?
Why should we not regulate industries that affect so many indiscriminately and with such disregard? The banking industry needs oversight. The military industries are rife with corruption, waste, and fraud. And the insurance industry is only a form of gambling where the rules are changed, by them, without concern for their customers.
If slaves were owned and if prostitutes sell themselves, then all of you in congress are both. You are owned by corrupt businesses. You sell yourselves so that you may continue to wallow in your own filth of illusion.
You do nothing but maintain the status quo. Then present yourself as a leader.
You are not patriots, or good citizens, or men of honor. You are cowards.

Education debate

It is interesting to read the debate regarding education in the paper. It is the same debate I remember from my youth 40 years ago. I had a teacher that that taught me the importance of staying informed by getting my information from a variety of sources. Thank-you Mr Wysong.
I’ve been an engineer for thirty years and substitute teacher for twenty of those thirty years. As in engineering and everything in life start with the basics and then build off that. When looking for the causes of a failed system, part, organization, machine, or anything for that matter, you will always find a root cause.
The root cause with regards to education is the lack of a strong foundation supporting the students. This is a result of the destruction of the family unit. And there are numerous reasons for that. The root cause for the loss of family structure, the basic foundation of groups that become societies, is too complicated to address in this format. But one of the contributing factors that apply directly to education is the diversity of ethnic, cultural, and economic factors that our students come from and are exposed to in their earliest years.
When you take a random group of students put them in a classroom, with one teacher, you have a recipe for failure.
That one teacher has got to present their subject matter to a group of students with varying abilities, attention spans, and social skills. The teacher has to teach to a syllabus mandated by school boards. They have to keep on schedule and meet progress milestones and trust that their students are upholding their part of the process by studying and doing their best to keep up with the class. Some do and some don’t. All the influences that we as members of society experience in our lives are concentrated in the classrooms. The results are the complex problems we see in education today.
It is absurd to believe that you can have one type of school system to address the diversity we experience in this country. Unlike other parts of the world we mandate public education for everyone. In second and third world countries children want desperately to go to school. Here in the U.S. many students find school to be an inconvenience that is barely tolerated. The 15% of students whose maturity and behavior are a detriment to any class or school, become a catalyst for chaos, and they destroy the learning opportunity for many other students.
To suggest that more computers, more janitors, and more supplies are needed is absurd. I’ve taught, albeit as a substitute, in many schools in this county. There are bags, drawers, closets, and file cabinets overflowing with supplies. There are countless computers and monitors stuffed away not being used. Laptops replace desktops and the desktops are hid away because there is no money to dispose of them properly. There are books everywhere that go unused and the books that are used are abused by many.
To suggest more janitors are needed is absurd. What is needed is a policy of holding students accountable for their behavior. Before I dismiss students I try to ensure that the room is as clean as it was when the came into the classroom. The students stick their gum everywhere. The students throw candy wrappers and spit sunflower seed shells wherever they like. Lollipop sticks and chip bags are dropped where they stand.
The incorrigible 15% need to be removed from the schools today and the remaining 85% of students need to be given the diversity of education opportunities that reflects the diversity in our society.
Going to school is every student’s form of employment. They get paid in grades and privileges. Sports, band, and all extra-curricular activities should be earned; they are not by any means an entitlement.

Open Letter to Politicians

An open letter to politicians.

Find your honor, find your courage, rise above partisan politics, and work together to resolve the issues this country faces. Somewhere between what a true democrat believes and what a true republican believes is common political ground that will benefit this country and the citizens that you all were elected to represent. Otherwise the common ground we share will be the same graveyard where other cultures and societies reside.
We the people, not we the corporations, are what sustain this country. We the people, not we the special interest groups, live and die believing in our flag, our constitution, our country, and each other. I do not hate and disregard my fellow citizens if they disagree with me, I do love and care for my fellow citizens because we share a common faith in what America means and what it should represent to the rest of the world, “a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.”
Democracy and citizens make capitalism possible. Capitalism and corporations do not make democracy possible.
Divided we are weak. Divided we fail. Divided we fall. Furthermore if we allow personal beliefs, special interests, and politics to divide us, than we all accomplish more in a day than any terrorist could do in a month of 9/11s to our country. What in your political history has brought you to the point where your political interests trump those of America’s interests?
Four thousand Americans die each year on the job and thousands more are injured. Hundreds of military personnel die each year and thousands are injured. Certainly their lives and injuries amount to more than your own personal political death or injury if it should occur because you are willing to sacrifice to improve our country. What more incentive do you need than honor? What more satisfaction can you enjoy than accomplishing real results? What better legacy can you leave than an America that is whole, an America that is strong, and an America that can be seen as a beacon of freedom, rather than another collapsed society?
Follow or get out of the way because you all certainly aren’t leading.
